Discovery Education’s K-12 platform has evolved over its more than 20-year lifespan from a video streaming service into a powerful platform containing a vast collection of high-quality, standards-aligned content, ready-to-use digital lessons, intuitive quiz and activity creation tools, and professional learning resources. Students have bright futures because they have the opportunity to grow, learn and succeed. Discovery learning has its origins from theorist Jerome Bruner in the 1960’s, and is based on the student being an active participant in the learning process. It requires learners to build upon background knowledge and utilize resources available in the environment to increase their knowledge base. Students can expect to meet with each teacher each day to get the help they need to be successful.Īfter graduation, most former Discovery Academy students progress to employment or higher education. Discovery learning involves allowing learners maximum freedom within a resource-rich environment to discover answers to disadvantages. At Discovery Academy, qualified teachers meet each student’s individual needs by using an instructional model where students receive individualized instruction. We accomplish this through student-teacher relationships.
Our goal is for students to graduate if they turn eighteen or to return to their home school with the credits needed to graduate on time.
This joint effort by therapists and teachers to identify the students' strengths and weaknesses and then work together for what is in the student's best interest has been highly successful. In the Discovery Academy program, academic and clinical staff work together to meet the therapeutic and academic goals of each student.
